About us

The Department of Trauma Surgery at Hannover Medical School (MHH) is the only clinic in metropolitan Hannover that fulfills all the criteria of a trauma clinic providing maximum care as specified by the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU).
Intensive scientific research and excellent clinical expertise in many specialties have gained worldwide recognition. Many today internationally recognized treatment concepts and treatment strategies are based – among other things – on the  activities and research results of  "Hanoverian trauma surgery".
The maximum care clinic is a trauma center in which the entire spectrum of trauma surgery is offered at the highest level. In addition to acute injuries of all severities after automobile and sports accidents, we are specialized in the restoration of late and resulting conditions.
An additional focus are the most modern procedures in joint reconstruction such as ligament and cartilage replacement or meniscus transplantation, as well as endoprosthetics including the most difficult exchange operations.

The department has its own Trauma Intensive Care Unit and its own special ward for children. A comprehensive offering of specialized consultation in the corresponding disciplines is available for outpatient presentations. The department is part of a strong, interdisciplinary network of diverse, accident-related specialized disciplines that also resolve the most difficult problems with a high degree of professionalism.
