About us

The Agaplesion Respiratory Hospital Waldhof Elgershausen is a pulmonary specialty hospital covering the complete spectrum of diseases of the respiratory organs. The hospital is equipped with highly modern equipment: we make use of the newest generation of bronchoscopy devices as well as spiroergometry and lung function systems and have recently renovated our sleep laboratory and parts of the life-support ward. Aside from the above mentioned focus areas, we also take care of patients with rare lung diseases (such as alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency).
Moreover, the Hospital has broad expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of other internal diseases, such as gastrointestinal diseases, or heart and cardiovascular diseases. The Hospital is KTQ (Cooperation in Transparency and Quality in Health Care) certified, takes regularly part in patient surveys and is a member of disease-specific networks of hospitals, cooperating regionally and nationally (in case of lung cancer, for instance, with the Gießen-Marburg University Hospital and the Kerckhoff Clinic at Bad Nauheim, with a Lung Cancer Center being set up). Furthermore, the department functions as coordinating operator in regional (University of Giessen Marburg Lung Center), national (German Center for Pulmonary Research / Deutsches Zentrum fuer Grundlagenforschung) and international (e.g. European IPF network) science associations. Considerable medical expertise, committed care and personal devotion, as well as pastoral care and psychosocial care options, are the foundations that support our work. For this reason, the Hospital, which looks back at a hundred year's history (founded in 1901), is well equipped to face the future.
