  3. treatment of both children and adult patients with astigmatism and neuro-ophthalmic problems
  4. treatment of patients with benign and malignant eye tumors and disorders of the orbital cavity
  5. conservative and surgical treatment of patients with retinal disorders (incl. age-related macular degeneration) at the Department of Vitreoretinal Surgery (Head: Prof. Dr. B. Kirchhof)

Diagnostic Services

  • Diagnostics as well as drug therapy and surgical treatment of all forms of glaucoma
  • Smear test: diagnosis of infectious disorders of the conjunctiva and the retina
  • Intraocular pressure measurement: with well-known and innovative methods for evaluating the intraocular pressure: PASCAL® tonometer, Rebound tonometer (iCare®), Goldmann tonometer, Perkins tonometer, Schioetz tonometer
  • Biometry: measurement of the eye with the IOL-Master (corneal radii, depth of the anterior chamber, length of the ocular bulb) or ultrasound image for the precise measurement of intraocular lenses
  • Biomorphometrics of the optic papilla via HRT 3
  • Electrophysiology
  • Color vision test for the documentation of visual field defects, such as in cases of glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmic diagnosis
  • Examination of the visual field: static perimetry (Octopus), kinetic perimetry (Goldmann)
  • Histology: histopathological examination of surgical specimen
  • Corneal thickness measurement (pachymetry)
  • Corneal topography: measurement of the anterior and the posterior corneal surface, e.g. in cases of keratoconus
  • Wavefront analysis of the cornea for the examination of aberrations (image defects)
  • HRT (Heidelberg Retina Tomograph): documentation of aberrations of the optic papilla, e.g. in cases of glaucoma
  • Scheimpflug camera: diagnostics of the anterior segments of the eye
  • 24h measurement of the intraocular pressure: for evaluation of the intraocular pressure in cases or in suspicion of glaucoma, also with measurement during the night and in a reclined position
  • Diagnostics of the precorneal film: e.g. Schirmer’s test I and II, breakup time for diagnosis of dry eye syndrome
  • Diagnostics of the tear duct: lacrimal lavage, lacrimal imaging in cooperation with our radiologists
  • Ultrasound
  • Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM): precise measurement of aberrations in the anterior segments, e.g. iris naevi, iris cysts; iridocorneal angle evaluation
  • Photography of the anterior chamber: documentation of aberrations in the anterior segments, e.g. iris or conjunctival naevi
  • OCT of the anterior segments (optical coherence tomography) for high definition, non-invasive tissue examination
  • Photo documentation of the optic papilla
